Kendall Orr for AISD School Board of Trustees, Place 2

My name is Kendall Orr. I am a Christian, wife and AISD mother of 4; and I will be running for the Arlington Independent School District Board of Trustees.

I currently work for a small business as one of the administrators where I help manage the daily operations of the business. I am also responsible for keeping track of the business's financial transactions. I look forward to serving my community as a trustee. But I need your vote!

My concerns are ones that I share with the Arlington community-

Parental Involvement and Engagement
Enrollment
Discipline.

As a trustee, I will work to implement an aggressive district initiative to go out into the community to reach out to families. As a daughter of immigrant parents, I believe that students know that their parents' lack of knowledge of, or involvement in, the school system opens the door for them to do as they please while creating discipline problems, such as bullying and truancy. Discipline in our schools is out of control! Teachers are burned out! They need a school board that is not afraid to tackle these issues. The lack of significant parental involvement, especially for students at risk, affects Arington ISD enrollment which has been declining every year at a rate of approximately 5%. Declining enrollment directly affects school funding. School funding, in return, affects how schools can address discipline issues which require resources in order to be adequately addressed. Strict policies must be set in place, and enforced by all stakeholders, because education matters!

Let's work together on educating and involving our parents, especially those from at-risk and immigrant populations! As an Arlington ISD School Board Member, I pledge to work hard to increase parental involvement by spreading knowledge and awareness of just how crucial you, the parents and guardians of students, are in our schools. We all play a vital role in our children's education. Vote for me so we strive towards positively influencing and impacting our school for the good of the greater community!
